Deborah Wian Whitehouse

PHOTOGRAPHER/MURALIST

Though Deborah Whitehouse is mostly known as a still photographer and muralist, she began her artistic career as a documentary filmmaker. It was through this medium that street photography as well as light and motion became a dominant characteristic of her present work. She studied color printing at the International Center of Photography in New York and later taught there. Her work has been featured in Art in America, Art Papers, American Photo, Photomagazin (Germany) and Public Art Review as well as at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and on National PBS.

Over a 13 year period she created the fine art photo essay, "Saturday Night", a collection of stunning night photography that explores subcultures of nightlife in America. Selections from the Saturday Night series are in museum collections internationally and private collections such as that of rock star Elton John.

During the 1990s, Ms Whitehouse's photography expanded into large-scale public art photomurals, composited from still photographs. This work has been honored with awards from the Urban Design Commission and The Atlanta City Council. Her photomurals continue to embrace a wide range of people, honoring cultural expression internationally.
